Firebirds Aerobatic Team

About the Team

The Firebirds Aerobatic Team is a three-ship civilian display team from Poland, founded in 2014 by Adam Labus, Łukasz Świderski and Sebastian Nowicki. Based at Katowice–Muchowiec Airport in Silesia, they fly two Extra 330LC two-seaters and one Extra 330SC single-seater.

Their compact ~10-minute routine blends tight close-formation figures, breaks and opposition passes, often culminating in a solo Unlimited-style finale. The team’s public debut came at the 2014 Rybnik Aero Club Aviation Picnic, and they’ve since headlined events across Poland—sometimes expanding to a four-ship with top Polish aerobats such as Artur Kielak or Łukasz Czepiela.

About the Extra 330 Series

Types operated. The Firebirds mix a single-seat Extra 330SC—purpose-built for Unlimited competition—with two Extra 330LC two-seat variants for formation and ride-along roles.

Power & structure. The 330SC is powered by the Lycoming AEIO-580 (around 315 hp in typical fit), giving searing vertical performance. The 330LC is closely related to the Extra 300L lineage, using the Lycoming AEIO-540 (~300 hp) and famed for its crisp controls (the 300L’s roll rate is quoted around 400°/s). Both retain Extra’s welded steel-tube fuselage and composite wing construction for strength and durability in high-G aerobatics.

Display fit. Smoke systems and high-contrast liveries enhance formation presentation and make opposition figures easy to track for spectators.

Team History

Origins. Conceived by three friends—Labus, Świderski and Nowicki—the Firebirds formed in 2014 at Katowice–Muchowiec. Their early set-up sometimes featured a Zlín 50LS leading two Extras before settling on the current three-ship Extra 330 mix.

Growth. After their Rybnik debut, the team quickly became a fixture at Polish city festivals and regional airshows. On occasion they combine with Artur Kielak or Łukasz Czepiela to create a striking four-ship formation for special events.

Style. The Firebirds’ routine emphasizes dynamic formation geometry and opposition passes that showcase the Extra’s power and roll authority, balanced with a music-synchronized flow designed for dense urban show sites.
