The organisers of the Radom Airshow have confirmed that the Swedish Air Force's JAS 39 Gripen solo display will make its highly anticipated debut at the event in 2025. Piloted by the experienced Major Henrik "SUNSHINE" Björling, this agile fighter jet is set to deliver a performance that will mark a significant moment for the prestigious Polish aviation event.

Held biennially at the Warsaw-Radom Airport, the Radom Airshow has long been a highlight for aviation enthusiasts, attracting over 140,000 spectators to witness a diverse lineup of aircraft, from historic warbirds to cutting-edge military jets. The 2025 edition, scheduled for August 30-31, promises to be particularly memorable with the inclusion of the Swedish Gripen, underscoring the growing defence and aviation ties between Sweden and Poland.

The JAS 39 Gripen, developed by Sweden’s Saab AB, is renowned for its versatility and advanced capabilities. Since entering service in 1996, it has become a cornerstone of the Swedish Air Force, excelling in air-to-air combat, ground strikes, and reconnaissance missions. Its delta wing and canard design, combined with an advanced fly-by-wire system, enable exceptional manoeuvrability, making it a standout performer at airshows worldwide.

Major Henrik Björling, a veteran pilot from the Swedish Air Force’s F 21 Luleå, will be at the controls for this debut. Known for his precision and dynamic flying style, Björling’s performance is expected to showcase the Gripen’s full range of capabilities, from high-speed passes to intricate aerial manoeuvres. Organisers have described the display as a combination of power and finesse, designed to leave a lasting impression on the audience.

While the Gripen has previously appeared in Poland, most notably at the Gdynia Aerobaltic Airshow in 2021, its participation in the Radom Airshow marks a significant first. This debut highlights the aircraft’s growing prominence in international aviation circles and offers Polish audiences a unique opportunity to witness one of Europe’s most advanced fighter jets in action.

Beyond its technical prowess, the Gripen’s appearance at Radom symbolizes the strengthening relationship between Sweden and Poland in the defense sector. Both nations share a commitment to advancing military capabilities, and this event serves as a platform to showcase their collaborative spirit. The Gripen’s adaptability, including its ability to operate from short runways, reflects Sweden’s strategic focus on flexibility and resilience—qualities that resonate with Poland’s own defense priorities.

As anticipation builds for the 2025 Radom Airshow, the Swedish Gripen’s debut is poised to be one of the event’s most memorable highlights. With Major Björling guiding this Nordic marvel through the skies, attendees can expect a display that blends military precision with the artistry of modern aviation. This performance not only celebrates technological innovation but also reinforces the enduring appeal of airshows as a stage for international cooperation and shared passion for flight.
